The provincial government has placed Parent Participation Preschools under the jurisdiction of the Community Care Facilities Licensing Act. In order to be a member of the Council of Parent Participation Preschools and to protect the quality of care children receive in all such preschools, it is required by childcare licensing that all persons who participate (assist) in any daycare or preschool center must have adequate knowledge of children. Accordingly, each center must have a trained supervisor, licensed by the government. In addition, any parent (or substitute) who will be assisting the supervisor is required by law to have participated in the minimum of ten hours of orientation before assisting in the school, followed by 1 1/2 hours per month throughout the school year of ongoing parent education.

Our school policy is that all parents/guardians performing duty must attend the monthly meetings. Each family has one vote. The meetings are divided in half to allow the Parent Education Program in the first half, followed by the school business portion in the second half.

The meetings are mandatory as each one deals with business that affects you and your child. Regular meetings are the most effective way of coordinating activities and ideas, and ensuring that all opinions are heard and considered. The business portion of the meeting also ensures that the school operates efficiently. The Parent Education program ensures that our parents are truly trained assistants to the teacher, by keeping them informed of new developments in matters relating to our children and by exposing them to topics they may be unfamiliar with or unclear about.

The sharing, caring and educational opportunities available for the entire family are unique in Parent Participation Preschools. An advantage of PPP membership is the parent education available. Our preschool places a special emphasis on parent education, recognizing that parents are educators too, the most vital educators of their children. The more you participate in your preschool parent education program, the better you will be able to sift and sort information and develop a style of parenting that is comfortable and successful for you!
