Each family in the preschool has a job. The success of our
school depends on the support and cooperation of all families. Please read the
Job Descriptions to help you determine the job for which you are best suited. If
you are registering for September, job selection will be done at the August
Coffee Party. If you are registering mid-year, please contact the Enrollment
person to determine which jobs are available.

assists in the preparation of new members for their duty

and keeps a record of the completed hours and advises Enrollment person when

arranges classroom observations by prospective new members
after referral from Enrollment Chairperson |

notifies Duty Scheduler when a new parent is fully oriented to

explains and supplies reading materials of PPP requirements,
the Preschool’s philosophy, teacher’s philosophy, organization of the

PARENT EDUCATION

prepares sign-in sheets and tracks parent attendance at

responsible for Parent Education Make-ups including: informing
parents who have not yet made up meetings, ensuring alternate Duty Parents
do their Make-ups, and informing VP’s of Parents who have “missed” meetings. |
NEWSLETTER
• |
produces a monthly newsletter to keep parents advised of
school activities and community events |
• |
collects articles from executive, other parents, teachers,
Parent Ed person, community centres, etc. |
• |
distributes newsletter through cubbies or at General meetings |
CREATIVE ASSISTANT
• |
maintains school photo album |
• |
cuts paper, decorations, as requested by teachers |
• |
prepares play-doh monthly |
• |
cleans tools (i.e. scissors are free from glue/paint, markers
are working) |
• |
helps with special projects |
DUTY SCHEDULER
AND TELEPHONER (one for each class)
• |
draws up a duty schedule for qualified duty parents |
• |
assigns duty days equally among parents considering their
employment, health, availability, etc. |
• |
prepares monthly calendars, including duty days, important
dates, excursions, birthdays, furniture moves, meetings |
• |
distributes schedule 2 weeks in advance of the month scheduled |
• |
communicates with Enrollment/Orientation person prior to
scheduling new parents for duty days to ensure they are fully oriented |
• |
telephones each member to remind them of up-coming events, as
requested by the Executive or teachers |
• |
maintains a list of those contributing food and draw prizes
for General meetings and informs contributing members prior to the meeting |
FURNITURE MOVE
SCHEDULER AND RENFREW LIAISON
• |
attends Renfrew Community Association meetings as required,
acting as liaison between preschool and Association |
• |
coordinates furniture moves before and after a hall rental
together with Furniture Move Assistants |
• |
assigns furniture moves equally among the parents (considering
such things as parent preference for the day of moving and experience level)
with as much advance notice as possible, both by telephone and in writing |
• |
ensures “map” of classroom is up to date for setting up
and putting away |
• |
notifies teacher of moves in advance so they can prepare
classroom |
• |
prepares a list of parents who are willing to do extra moves
for payment of $20.00/move |
FURNITURE MOVE &
FUNDRAISING ASSISTANTS

acts as a Team leader for each group |

makes tea and coffee and puts out refreshments |

puts away all chairs after the meeting and ensures the
classroom is set up again |

LAUNDRY AND SEWING

washes all dirty towels and clothes weekly |

EQUIPMENT/EQUIPMENT
REPAIRS AND INVENTORY

responsible for planning (with assistance from the teachers
and Executive), purchasing and construction of/or maintenance of all
equipment |

responsible for pick up and return of rented equipment |
• |
keeps toys, tricycles, etc. in good repair and attends to
minor repairs in the preschool |
• |
responsible for the year-end inventory and sending copies of
this to council |
• |
checks and restocks earthquake supplies twice a year |
HOUSEKEEPING/HEALTH
AND SAFETY (four in total)

weekly basis - responsible for light house keeping of the
school (two families will perform same duties, each on alternate weeks -
i.e. actually bi-weekly job) |

monthly basis - responsible for heavy duty cleaning from the
list provided by teachers (two families will perform different duties, each
on a monthly basis) |
• |
stocks first aid kit |
• |
ensures all items in preschool are properly labeled for safety
(i.e. bleach bottles, soap bottles, paints, glues, etc.) |

ensures fire extinguisher has been serviced and replaces
batteries in smoke detectors twice a year |

checks outlets for safety plugs on a continual basis |
